With Windows 7, WPF 4, Silverlight 4, and the road paved by our multi-touch handheld devices, Multi-touch is really hitting mainstream.

While at MIX10, I spoke with Josh Blake about NaturalShow, his multi-touch not-PowerPoint presentation approach, written in WPF. Josh uses multi-touch to navigate through a really clever way of presenting material. I’d try and describe it, but it’s really best if you watch it.

Creating your whole website using Silverlight isn’t usually the approach you’ll take–unless you happen to be a company specializing in Silverlight development.

At MIX10, I caught up with Emil Stoychev, founder of SilverlightShow. His company, CompletIT, located in Sofia, Bulgaria, created a very slick animated website entirely in Silverlight. It has everything from background animation, to cool folding effects, to a full portfolio to…flying pigs!

Definitely worth a view.

Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is a standard for vector graphics on the web, supported by modern browsers. IE9 introduces GPU-accelerated SVG, enabling larger and faster vector graphics. Architect Ted Johnson and PM Lead Patrick Dengler of the IE team join Doug Schepers of W3C to talk about GPU-accelerated web standards, and what it means for the future.

Dave Campbell runs the super-popular SilverlightCream. SilverlightCream is the best place to find current and past blog posts related to Silverlight development.

I caught up with Dave at MIX10 and asked him what went into putting together this daily list of excellent Silverlight content.

One of the more interesting uses for Silverlight is casual gaming. When you add Windows Phone 7 Series into the mix, it becomes even more exciting.

At MIX10, I met up with Microsoft MVP and all around cool guy, Richard Costall. He showed me how, with no real changes, he was able to get his Silverlight game Manic Miner to run on the Windows Phone 7 Series. In fact, he did the port that day, using bits he just received at the conference. He plans to take this further and optimize the experience for the Windows Phone. I can’t wait to see the results.

John ran into Silverlight MVP Ward Bell of IdeaBlade while at MIX10 (how could anyone miss him!). Ward was kind enough to sit and talk with John to show off the multi-touch application his company wrote for UFC using Silverlight. It uses multi-touch, Caliburn, MVVM, and, of course, Silverlight!

Microsoft Student Insiders, Joe Osborne and Tom Ziegman, were lucky enough to spend some time with the busiest man at MIX10,  Bill Buxton.   Bill talks about the complexity (and necessity) of integrating the disciplines of technology, business and design.  And true to his Canadian heritage, he uses a hockey analogy to explain why all members of the team need to play a part in creating Natural User Interfaces

Bill Buxton and Erik Meijer are both highly respected scientists in very different fields. Erik is a programming language designer and creator of LINQ, “Volta”, Rx and other things we can’t share publicly yet. Bill is a user experience design researcher, musician and a celebrity in the design community.

We figured we should put them together, roll the cameras and see what happens. The topic: different perspectives on the essence of design, regardless of specific domain.

It turns out that Erik and Bill have many similarities including an interesting Dutch connection. This is a pure Channel 9 conversation that happened in real time at MIX10, broadcast live.

So, what happens when you put two masters of different domains together for the first time, on stage, live? Tune in to find out.

The dream team is back. Well, nobody really calls them the “Dream Team” but they do – anyway, they’ve rustled up the top stories at Microsoft this week and here they are:
