Nikhil Kothari and Dinesh Kulkarni join John to announce the official release of WCF RIA Services v1.0! They discuss the road their teams took to create RIA Services, some of the decision points that helped shape the product, and the high level of community involvement in the product’s evolution. They also demonstrate some of the features of RIA Services and give a glimpse at what the future may have in store for it. Dinesh and Nikhil have worked on RIA Services from its beginnings and have seen it evolve through several names (4 by my rough count). Don’t miss this episode with 2 key leaders of RIA Services!

In this video, Adam Kinney explains what the PathListBox is and why it is so compelling. Then, he demonstrates several ways of using it in creative examples. The PathListBox is one of the newest features available in Expression Blend, Silverlight 4 and WPF 4. It redefines how users look at lists of data as it breaks the mold of a list “box” and opens the possibilities to use any shape or path. Don’t miss this episode and be sure to download Adam’s sample code.

I wrap up GDC 2010 with an interview with Shawn Hargreaves about XNA Game Studio 4.0.  I think Microsoft picked a perfect event to show off XNA Game Studio 4.0.  With XNA 3.1 developers were able build games that ran on the Zune, Xbox 360 and Windows PC’s, but 4.0 is going to include the Windows Phone 7 series.  Here is some info below on some of our other GDC 2010 content.  Don’t forget to watch Channel 9 during MIX10 to get all of your Windows Phone 7 information.

Power Gig:  Rise of the Six String
Alpha Protocol, Mass Effect 2, Lego Harry Potter
Microsoft Phone 7 with Xbox Live

F# is Microsoft’s first functional programming language to be included as one of Visual Studio’s official set of languages. F# is a succinct, efficient, expressive functional/object-oriented programming language under joint development by Microsoft Developer Division and Microsoft Research. During the course of Erik Meijer’s fantastic lecture series on functional programming fundamentals several of you asked for examples of specific topics in F#. Well, we listened.

Dr. Don Syme is a principal researcher in MSR Cambridge. He has a rich history in programming language research, design, and implementation (C# generics being one of his most recognized implementations), and is the principle creator of F#. Who better to lecture on the topic than Don? This three part series will serve as an introduction to F#, including insights into the rationale behind the history and creation of Microsoft’s newest language.
